About Us

become a sustaining member
Indivisible Berks  is a volunteer-led, grassroots organization founded on the simple idea that government can and should make our lives better. We raise our voices in the public square, hold our elected officials to account, and take action on important issues like healthcare, fair wages, immigration, climate change and voting rights.

We are an independent organization unaffiliated with any political party or beholden to any special interests. Indivisible Berks is a proud member of the Pennsylvania Stands Up coalition.

Indivisible Berks is not a chapter of the national Indivisible organization. We were inspired by the Indivisible Guide and take some of their suggestions, but no funding whatsoever. We are 100% local and independent. Neither are we the Democratic Party. The Party's mission is to elect Democrats to office. Ours is to hold elected officials of both parties accountable for their actions in office. There is plenty of room for all of us.

"There are some issues that are not left versus right, liberal versus conservative, they are right versus wrong. We need to embrace our deepest moral values and push for a revival of the heart of our democracy. We must shock this nation with the power of love. We must shock this nation with the power of mercy. We must shock this nation and fight for justice for all. We can’t give up on the heart of our democracy, not now, not ever!"
-- Dr. Rev. William Barber II

What do we stand for?
Liberty and Justice for All

Democracy. We uphold the principles and promises of democracy -- universal suffrage, fair and unbiased voter access, campaign finance reform, including an end to Citizens United, and an equitable, nonpartisan approach redistricting.

Economic Systems Built for People. We stand for an economy that allows workers and small businesses to thrive, protects consumers against speculation and market excesses, and reverses the trend toward extreme income inequality. We fight for access to family-sustaining jobs, so every person can care for and support their families and have a secure retirement, and for the rights of working people to organize. In Pennsylvania in particular, we need to flip our upside-down tax system and the backwards ways we fund education and community services.

Education Equity. We stand for free, high-quality public education in every community and against every effort to privatize public education or push public resources to for-profit education. We stand for equitable outcomes for every child – for girls, for rural, urban, and poor students, for LGBTQ students and students of color -- and against the criminalization of our children through the school-to-prison pipeline.

Sustainability & Environmental Justice. We stand for a renewable energy economy that puts people and planet first by reversing climate change, undoing the toxic damage to our air, land and water -- particularly in low-income communities and communities of color -- and investing in clean, sustainable energy sources.

Healthcare for All. We believe that health care is human right, and that affordable, timely access should be guaranteed by our government regardless of where we live or who we are. We stand for a health care system that supports healthy people and communities, not the profits of drug and insurance corporations.

Immigration. We support immigrant rights and promote immigrants’ full integration into society by advocating for greater public understanding and welcoming policies throughout Pennsylvania and the nation. We oppose the militarization of our borders, inhumane detention, and cruel policies that tear families apart and sow fear throughout immigrant communities.

Criminal Justice. We stand for a criminal justice system based on equal treatment, and for investments in harm reduction, restorative justice, and mental health treatment. We oppose mass incarceration, excessive criminalization, state violence and biased policing and courts.
