Party will return to governing according to nation's values.
I would like to echo some of Jane Beck's observations in her Oct. 19 letter ("Keep America great by backing Democrats"). Describing America's past, Beck wrote: "Morality was a requirement, not a joke. Mocking others was appalling, not applauded." The Reading Eagle reinforced these ideas the next day by publishing a political cartoon that depicted a child asking why he cannot call his sister the names his president has called numerous women.
To truly keep America great, we need to restore the civility we once espoused. Dividing our citizenry with crude, attacking comments is not productive. We are one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. This needs to be remembered to protect Social Security and Medicare for future generations, as we have all paid into these benefits with hard work.
We need to keep our friends abroad and not further alienate them. Working with them toward climate change is essential to keep us all from perishing. Working with our allies is important in trade, to keep a global economy rolling.
Voting the straight Democratic ticket on Nov. 6 would help to again restore great American values. Let us try to be moral, honest, respectful and great again.
