Letter: Clean Power Plan shouldn’t be repealed

People should make their thoughts known on key environmental issue.

Editor:

While the government gets back to work after the shutdown, it's important to highlight the fact that the Trump administration is rejecting the single largest effort to cut climate pollution in the U.S. by repealing the Clean Power Plan. The CPP established important state emission guidelines that would lower greenhouse-gas emissions from American power plants by 32 percent by 2030. However, President Donald Trump and the Environmental Protection Agency are repealing these important protections.

The repeal of this initiative will have detrimental effects on our air, climate and weather patterns, which directly threaten the health care of American citizens. Ignoring the facts of human-caused climate change won't protect American families from breathing dirtier air and storms powered by rising oceans and hotter temperatures.

The Trump administration is ignoring the will of 8 million Americans and 1,100 health professionals who supported the plan during the public comment period. Pennsylvanian voices were critical in shaping the CPP, with more than 200,000 people submitting comments in support of the plan. The EPA's public comment period has been extended to April 26, and I urge all Pennsylvanians to make their voices heard to the EPA in continued support against this repeal.
