The president is using children as bargaining chips on immigration policy. Editor: On April 6, U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced a zero-tolerance policy for criminal illegal entry. The policy change resulted in at least 2,000 children being separated from their parents at our southern border since April 19, including families that are legally seeking asylum status. President Donald Trump recently attempted to blame the Democrats for this indefensible policy. Make no mistake about it: This is a lie. Trump could snap his fingers and end the immoral Department of Justice policy of separating families at our border. Similarly, he could order that "Dreamers" will not face a deportation threat. Trump is using his own brutal and inhumane immigration policies as bargaining chips. It's up to all Americans to end this moral outrage with our votes in November. We must send a message to Trump and the Congress that refuses to hold him accountable for his endless lies and indefensible policies. Oct. 9 is the last day to register to vote. Don't wait; register now. John Hollinger Wyomissing Dislike border policy? Get registered, vote
