Lawmakers will bear responsibility for their failure to act.
Thank you for your call to end the unrestricted ownership of assault rifles. These weapons have no purpose except to kill human beings.
Yes, the Second Amendment is important. No, restricting ownership of these weapons of destruction will not weaken the Second Amendment. A recent Quinnipiac University poll found 67 percent of the public in favor of a nationwide ban on the sale of assault weapons.
In the same article reporting these poll numbers, Quinnipiac pollster Tim Malloy stated: "If you think Americans are largely unmoved by the mass shootings, you should think again. Support for stricter gun laws is up 19 points in little more than two years."
I will leave it to others to say why our politicians have not done their duty in helping protect our society from the mass killing carried by assault rifles. However, the Reading Eagle is correct in saying that these politicians bear responsibility for the next massacre if they do not do the right thing. The American people want a nationwide ban on the sale of assault weapons. It is time for our politicians to be responsible, to do the right thing, and carry out the desire of the nation.

Firearms restrictions are very much in order
