Letter: Indivisible Berks mischaracterized

Activist group not the dangerous force some claim it to be.

Editor:
"Berks Republican Women host congressional hopefuls" (Reading Eagle, Sept. 8) showed some misunderstandings.

I wonder whom Berks Republican Women President Carla D'Addesi has met from Indivisible Berks. I know many of them, and to describe them as "hostile to America and to family values" is the exact opposite of what they stand for.

Indivisible Berks believes in working toward liberty and justice for all in this country. Many joined this group due to concerns for their own family as well as families across this country. This nonpartisan group consists of members from all parties.

D'Addesi talks about the "left using hateful and violent messaging" referring to talk of all Republicans being misogynists, racists or homophobic. I have many family members and friends who are Republicans, and not one of them is any of those things. You don't have to look any further than President Donald Trump to see this hateful and violent messaging. He does it all the time.

Candidate Dan Meuser spoke of draining the swamp. Has he paid attention to questionable activities by former and current Trump Cabinet members Scott Pruitt, Tom Price, David Shulkin and Ben Carson, to name a few? Meuser refers to Trump as a hero. Ask the hundreds of children who are still separated from their families about that.

Candidate Greg McCauley is promising to fix the debt. Too bad he wasn't in Washington when the deficit-expanding tax plan was passed.

May we work toward a government by the people and for the people.
