Compassion is essential to the faith.
The current administration has deemed the separation of families an effective immigration deterrent. This may be true. Some who support this practice label themselves Christians. This is incongruous.
Christian doctrine is exclusively found in the New Testament. Luke 10:27-28 states that one must be fully committed to God and love one's neighbor as oneself. When asked to identify the neighbor, Jesus tells the story of the good Samaritan. The Samaritan does not check the ethnicity of the man in need, and the point is made that one person's need and the other's compassion make them neighbors.
The modern application is that those seeking asylum in our nation need our compassion Therefore, those who deny kindness to these fellow men should not claim to be Christian.
