The "smoke and mirrors" budget passed by the Pennsylvania House of Representatives is a disgrace. How can "conservatives" vote for something that spends over $2 billion more than the state has and claims to fund the rest with imaginary money?
The budget contains $200 million in "income" from increased gambling, when no such plan even exists yet. It borrows $1 billion, though the state is supposed to have a balanced budget. And it relies on stealing funds from existing trust funds that have important purposes. For example, it will rob BARTA of 20 percent of its funding, hurting our local elderly and working-class people who rely on it.
Even the Republican state Senate leadership admits that most of this money is not available for general spending. In short, this budget is a total fraud. Can you imagine how these guys would buy a used car? Just drive it off the lot, and then three months later call the dealer and say, "Uh, yeah, I might be able to pay for that car sometime, if I can figure out how ..."
It's time for a change in Harrisburg. We should vote out these GOP fraudsters next year.
