Remember administration's proposed rule changes when voting.
I am writing in response to proposed changes in federal regulations that would not only enable further discrimination against transgender people but would dictate gender based solely on physical attributes.
As a transgender woman, I am here to tell you that gender and sex are not the same thing. Don't believe me? Please educate yourself, starting with The Associated Press article with the headline: "Science says: Sex and gender aren't the same."
Transgender people eat, breathe and bleed like everyone else. We deserve equal rights under the law just like every other citizen. There are an estimated 1.4 million transgender citizens in the U.S., according to the Williams Institute at the UCLA School of Law.
The current administration is proposing changes that would, in effect, erase our existence as who we are.
The intent is to deny transgender people equal protection under the law and take away our civil rights.
I urge everyone to remember this when voting in the upcoming election.
I am but one of many who will be affected by these changes. And I won't be erased by intolerance and ignorance.
