Editor: I'm writing regarding "Poll: Americans pessimistic about Trump, country," Reading Eagle, Dec. 16). On the campaign trail, candidate Donald Trump made some awesome promises. More than a year later, it might be a good time to review those promises. He said he would build a wall on our southern border and that Mexico would pay for it. Didn't happen. He promised everyone would have great, affordable health care. In reality, costs continue to rise, and there is a real possibility the rolls of uninsured will rise. He blasted our infrastructure and said he would build big, beautiful bridges, airports and roads. Still waiting. He promised to drain the swamp in Washington. If anything the swamp has gotten deeper, with one of his Cabinet picks forced to resign after it was disclosed that he had chartered a private jet on the taxpayer dime. Former Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney predicted Trump would be a chaos president. Those words are becoming more prescient with each passing day. U.N. poverty expert Philip Alston recently issued a report stating, "The proposed tax reform package stakes out America's bid to become the most unequal society in the world."
